Use proper grammar, spelling, and longer posts whenever possible.
We'd prefer to keep the posts easy to read through at a glance without having to deal with deciphering a post. This isn't so necessary in non-canon shoutbox discussions, but it would help if we kept most things spelled correctly in episodes or scenarios. This means that under NO circumstances should there be chatspeak going on anywhere. A few 'omg this is hilarious' in OUT OF CHARACTER CONVERSATION is fine, but don't use it in your actual posts. However, emoticons are fine.
There's spellcheck for a reason, people. But I understand that there is also the great and terrible AUTOCORRECT, and some keyboards that have been messed up- my old keyboard used to type double letters where there weren't supposed to be any... and where there was no spellcheck to save me. Just do your best here to write as if your English or Language Arts or whatever teacher you have is looking over your shoulder.
ALSO- please make your posts at least 5-6 sentences long. It makes everything so much easier to respond to!
No double-posting unless you HAVE to.
What is double-posting, you ask? It is where one person posts two things in a row on a forum, where they could have hit the edit button instead. If you don't know how to edit a post, click the spoiler to open up a chain of pictures showing how:
No Mary Sues, god-mods, character spotlight, etc...
Nobody likes a Mary Sue- overly perfect characters are hard to sympathize with. God-modding, or being 'invincible' is also frowned upon. In combat scenes, it's where you never get hit, and when you do, you don't get hurt. Character spotlight? That's making your character's story the most dramatic and heart-wrenching and EVERYTHING is about them in the story. In other words, your character (even if they're flawed) is the main character. Here, everyone is equal. Also, don't make characters whose sole purpose is to be a pitiful bump on a log who everyone cries over 24/7.
Don't control other characters!
Controlling other people's characters is very unfair to them. It's one thing to control NPCs in the crowd, like individual voices, but it's another entirely for you to decide what another character that belongs to someone is saying or doing. This includes auto-hitting- where you are fighting another character and then hit them without letting them have a chance to dodge.
For example...
"Susie attacked her opponent, raking her fingernails deep into his tender flesh!"
Instead, you should type something like...
"Susie attacked her opponent, slashing her fingernails and hoping to dig them deep into his tender flesh!"
Also, don't kill any characters without arranging everything with their admin first. Once everything is figured out, BOTH parties involved in the death must send an administrator a PM so we know that character's death is figured out. Or, check out this thread. You may resurrect your character if you change your mind, or make another in their place. However, all resurrection methods must fit with the canon, and please only resurrect your character once, unless their species is capable of resurrecting more than once (werecats, necromancers).
Keep it PG-13.
I don't anticipate any issues with this one. The title says it all. Violence should be good for the most part, but if the degree of detail you enter here is bothering any members, please be mindful of that. Romantic relationships, which shouldn't be the main focus of this roleplay, shouldn't progress beyond the PG-13 level, and if they do, either pull in a 'fade to black' scene or move to private messages.
Again, not anticipating issues here, but just to be sure.
Be respectful and have fun!
Respect everyone on this forum. Even if your characters hate each other, please at least be kind to the character's admin. And don't forget, enjoy yourself! If you don't feel comfortable on the forums, then take a break until you are more comfortable.
On the topic of respect, swearing is fine. Just don't direct it at other admins. There's a living, breathing person behind every character here, and if you have an issue with someone, let us know! Take a screenshot of their abuse and send it to an administrator.
